Actualizando y Dibujando #1

A drawn image of a park bench with a mountain of blueberries overflowing off of it, beside a bee hive that has honey overflowing out its door and off the top. All in front of a background of two trees and some greenery.
Time to draw: 1.5 hrs
App: Krita (Will probably always be Krita lol)
Brushset: JP Blocker (respect to the play of putting a space in front of your name so your set shows up on top lol)
This is my first ever redraw!
And funny enough, the original was not from that long ago. I am sad to say, that I forgot to take progress pics, a habit I’m trying to build lol.
The reason I was so keen to redrawn this piece was because I’d been using a technique to help me practice specific things (namely mouths and noses), then in some studying, I saw something that connected that technique for practice to better skills when making a piece.
The “hack” that I was using to help me learn facial features was filling a canvas with all black then using just white to carve out a three dimensional shape. Something about using white on black made it really hard to default to just trying to draw flat outlines. The next step of that process is to add on new value, then another, then another.
And this is just trying to build form, but it really made it clearer for me.
And once I connected that to other aspects of sketch and color, I did a more dedicated study on forms, edges, and lines.
Yay for progress!
Part of what I wanted to do with these update pics is show my drawing progress, yes. But I also have an ungodly amount of brush sets in Krita (it’s open source, so a ton are free). When I’m working on important projects, it’s hard to want to experiment too much with brushes. But this gives me a chance to test them out and tag them according to how they feel when I use them, which I desperately need to find a time and space to do.

In one of my posts for my pre-release of A Home that is Not Your Home, I said that I was going to have three projects going out this year, not including that piece. And, like, I’ll have three projects ready to go by the end of the year. But with pre-releases, even if one pre-release starts the day a book comes out, it might be pushing it to have them come out all this year.
I’m not stressed about it, because of how I feel I’m getting set up and prepared for future release schedules. But just giving an update on the timing.
