Cars
I think it’s finally time that I said this.
So, we all know that cars are designed to not care about pedestrians, crituras, and non-property things, right? What if I told you a major sign of that is the fact that cars don’t have brake lights on the front of them? *gasp*
As someone who’s been a pedestrian and a piss-poor frogger player my whole life, I feel a constant anxiety any time I try to cross a street. I am simply not confident that the cars are slowing down and thus won’t hit me.
You know what would help a lot? A visual indication to let me know that I have been seen and the driver intends to avoid hitting me.
It would be especially nice for times when I’m caught in that awkward two step with a car where I’m trying to cross and they’re trying to turn. And neither of us know who’s trying to move first.
And it doesn’t just help pedestrians. For the same reason seeing someone’s brake lights in front of you tells you that, if you aren’t already braking, you should. Seeing the brake light of someone beside you in front of you will let you know that there’s something worth braking for ahead.
I am not trying to actually make a big philosophical point about this. I just want to cross the street safely.
