Vegans are pissing Me Off
I am so sorry, to the decent vegans out there that have to hang out while their name is being used to shield white supremacists from their bullshit. And it’s a constant issue. I’ve seen it said before, but there is a very thin line between veganism and white supremacy and not a lot of people can toe that line very well. Case in point, PETA.
If you can tell already, I’m not a good mood or with the way people are talking about and around veganism right now.
My official stance: if your veganism is judgmental your politics are shallow and useless.
For example, if you’re vegan “for the animals”, but don’t fight for Land Back and other initiatives to combat the way capitalism and industrialization are destroying land, habitats, the environment- you know things animals need to actually survive even beyond the food chain but happen to keep you comfortable in your way of life, your politics are shallow.
If you’ve ever opened your mouth to shame the general public for eating meat, then you are too ignorant to understand the core reasons people do rely on meat (economics and availability being major ones) thus your participation in the space is useless.
If you gave yourself a pat on the back when meat recalls started going around, then this whole thing was absolutely about your ego and you don’t actually care about the animals. Because why would you not be more concerned about them getting deadly diseases than you are about making sure you received some amount of praise for how the situation turned out? And did you learn anything when veggie recalls followed?
It’s always been incredibly frustrating to see yt people not only talk over indigenous communities on the topic, but also try and scold or shame them (especially on National Day of Mourning. That right there is peak yt supremacy to me, good lord.) So you can imagine my fury when I started seeing vegans saying “Well I already knew people were going to stop giving a fuck about genocide, they still eat meat”.
Like that statement screams performative justice, practical ignorance. There is literally nothing to this perspective except for bias. And it is such a holier than thou position that doesn’t even seek the means of actually accomplishing what they say they want, which in theory is for people to universally stop eating meat.
Cause you wouldn’t be that special or superior for being a vegan if you learned about food deserts, or dietary issues, or the perspective of seeing plants and nature beyond just being a thing.
So instead you just chalk it up to people being lazy, selfish, etc. A trait you definitely didn’t get, yet again, from yt supremacy.
